Kabukuba Primary School now has electricity and laptops!
Kabukuba Primary School now has electricity, printers, laptops, projectors and high-speed internet.
Until recently, Kabukuba Primary School, with almost 1,000 pupils, had neither electricity nor any IT equipment. The highly qualified IT teacher was, so to speak, left with no infrastructure.
The Sustainable Villages Foundation took on the challenge with the support of the German Association of IT SMEs (BITMi), the Rwanda ICT Chamber and their joint initiative “Access International Partnerships in IT For All” (AIPI for All).

First, the energy supplier Rwanda Energy Group (REG) was persuaded to connect the school to the national electricity grid. Then, the small office building and one of the school buildings were fitted with electrical installations, including lights and sockets. New computer desks and 30 modern laptops were then set up in one of these rooms. In addition, this smart classroom and another classroom each have a projector installed in the ceiling and a screen. A fast internet connection links Kabukuba Primary School to e-learning tools that support teachers and pupils, and of course to the whole world.

Immediately after completion in March 2026, the Rwanda ICT Chamber began IT training for teachers. The aim is for all teachers to be able to use computers and the internet. Some teachers are being trained so that they can also provide their pupils with qualified IT lessons.

The Smart Classroom at Kabukuba Primary School is the seventh computer classroom to be equipped by the Sustainable Villages Foundation. Funding has already been secured for three further Smart Classrooms; after that, there will be just two remaining in the Juru sector, which we plan to complete by 2027 at the latest, before moving on to one of the neighbouring sectors.
