Agricultural project with over 1,600 beneficiaries launched!
In this 18-month project, 300 farming households will be trained and women's savings groups with 150 members will receive a revolving fund.
Low household income, occasional malnutrition, lack of water and often a lack of knowledge about farming methods remain a problem in our project area. Women and female-headed households are more severely affected than men.
With support from the German Federal Government through the BENGO/Engagement Global programme, Sustainable Villages Foundation has set up an 18-month project. The local implementation partner is Caritas Rwanda, with whom we have been working for some time.

The programme components are:
- 300 farming households will be trained in improved cultivation techniques, water and hygiene, and financial literacy.
- A total of 300 water tanks or reservoirs will be built in the households.
- There will be model farmers.
- We are building another cold storage room.
- Five women's savings groups with a total of 150 members will receive a revolving fund that they can use to grant loans to their members. Accompanying training courses will be provided on the use of the loans and the assessment of projects by the management of the savings groups.
The Caritas team consists of a project manager, two agricultural experts and two social workers who are driving the project forward on site, accompanied by our agricultural project manager. An accountant from Caritas is supporting the administrative side of the project from Kigali.

At the beginning of December 2025, the kick-off workshop took place at the agricultural centre, which was completed in April 2025. Intensive discussions were also held with those responsible for the Juru Sector. The selection of the first 100 participating farming households and the first two women's savings groups is expected to be completed by mid-January 2026, so that training can begin in the second half of January.
The aim of the project is to improve incomes, nutrition and living conditions in rural areas, with a particular focus on strengthening the economic position of women.
